Italian gets life in Kenya for abusing stepson, 3 – English

(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 22 – A 50-year-old Italian citizen has
been sentenced to life imprisonment in Kenya for sexually
abusing his three-year-old stepson.

Paolo Camellini, originally from Goito, in the province of
Mantova, was reported by his Kenyan ex-wife on February 15,
local media reported at the weekend.

The following day Kenyan police arrested Camellini at Manyatta,
in the working class district of Kisium in the country’s third
largest city, near lake Victoria.

The man, who is a house painter, has always affirmed his
innocence.

He married the woman six years ago but then split up while
continuing to frequent her.

Camellini’s lawyer Isaac Odero is following the sensitive case
with the help of the Italian embassy in Nairobi.

Next week, he said, he will file an appeal against the sentence
issued by judge Chrispine Oruo of a court at Kisumu.

Odero told ANSA the prosecution case was “full of holes”.

He said “the doctor didn’t give convincing details on the
possible damage suffered by the child and the court received no
test showing DNA evidence different from the boy’s.

“We are convinced we have the margins to overturn the sentence”.
