Overview: My favorite Paros Instagram Spots
- Naoussa Harbor
- Parikia Old Town
- Paros Park
- Antiparos Caves
- Butterflies Valley
1. Naoussa Harbor
Location: Google Maps link
Let me start with one of the most photogenic tourist spots: Naoussa Harbor.
It is a picturesque fishing port with colorful boats, whitewashed structures, cafes and taverns, and a harbor entrance with access to Venetian castle ruins.
From these highlights alone, I took numerous shots that were certainly hard not to like, but the best one was the harbor shot from the stone bridge connecting the village to the Venetian castle.
I took it during the sunset when establishments on the port started to turn on their night lights and the still blue sky reflected from the sea.
Naoussa is one of the best areas to stay in Paros, see where to stay on Paros.
2. Kolymbithres Beach
Where: Google Maps link
From Naoussa Harbor, you can ride a boat to Kolymbithres, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece.
It’s known for huge blocks of smooth, strange-looking granite surrounding the shore and crystal-clear sea.
I went there in November, so there were fewer crowds, and I had all the time to capture stunning beach subjects like the meringue-shaped rocks that seemed to float near the shore.
There are two helpful things I learned from capturing beach photos. One is that a focal point or any subject that draws the viewer’s attention will make the image enjoyable.
Second, the “golden hour,” the time shortly after sunrise and before sunset, will help avoid overexposed shots.
3. Parikia Old Town
Location: Google Maps link
If you wish to take a leisurely walk in a traditional Greek village, Parikia Old Town is the perfect place to experience things to do in Paros.
The Old Town is the oldest area of Parikia, the capital of Paros, which has mostly kept its original appearance.
I couldn’t get enough of taking photos of whitewashed buildings with sprawling blooms and winding cobbled paths, old churches, the Frankish Castle, and the views of Livadia Beach.
To capture the timeless beauty of traditional Greek architecture, experiment with different camera settings and be particular about the buildings’ light and shadow and the textures and colors.
Parikia is just 10 kilometers away from the national airport, Paros only airport. Are you looking for a nearby airport in Paros? Check how to get to Paros.
4. Lefkes Village
Exact location: Google Maps link
The charming village of Lefkes is about a 20-minute drive from Noussa or Parikia, in the verdant hills of inland Paros.
I enjoyed taking snaps along the village’s Byzantine trail, which I hiked through endless olive groves and stone bridges towards the Parian marble and brick-made Agia Triada Church.
And if I only have to stay 2 days in Paros, I wouldn’t miss the quiet villages of Prodromos and Marpissa.
Those towns have narrow, beautiful walkways, arched entrances, and whitewashed homes lined with colorful bougainvillea.
To get a slightly different shot of the narrow alleyways, play some angles and focal points, and use the vibrant colors around like the blooms and the blue windows and doors.
5. Golden Beach
How to get there: Google Maps link
South of Parikia, Golden Beach is a known swimming and watersports bay in Paros. It boasts an extensive golden sandy shore with gently rolling waves loved by windsurfers.
So if you’d like to enjoy water activities in Paros, it’s the best area to stay in Paros.
Since the beach has a long curved shore with an enormous hill backdrop in the west, a panoramic shot from either side will be a great angle.
I tried shooting umbrellas and sunbeds as focal points, and the level angle from the back worked, capturing the peaceful sea horizon and the objects’ shadows.
Understanding the subtle differences between sunrise and sunset gave me an idea of how beach photos may look. Sunset provides more color, but sunrise may have distinct elements like fog.
6. Paros Park
Exact location: Google Maps link
Nestled on the peninsula of Agios Ioannis Detis, Paros Park was opened in 2009. It has 7km of easy-to-moderate trails that showcase fascinating landscapes and landmarks.
Up the trails, I witnessed an enchanting sunset view at Cape Corakas Lighthouse. Still, the best spot was the monastery of Agios Ioannis Detis, which overlooks the stunning bay of Naoussa and the blue Aegean Sea.
Brimming with spectacular attractions, 1 day in Paros Park may not be enough.
In capturing such beautiful landscapes, the “rule of thirds” is usually a composition technique that puts your subject in the left or right third of the photo, leaving the other two-thirds more open.
7. Monastiri Beach
Where: Google Maps link
Surrounded by rocky hills and a few kilometers away from Kolymbithres Beach, Monastiri Beach is another best beach in Paros with shallow blue-green waters.
You can view the Monastery of Agios Ioannis Detis on its right side.
The Monastiri Beach Club, the best beach club in Paros, will pamper you in style with its facilities and beach boho vibes.
Explore the “golden hours” of the day for unique lighting effects. When I want my beach photos to look relaxed in harsh sunlight, I shoot in manual mode to control the lights the images are getting.
8. Agios Antonios Monastery
Exact location: Google Maps link
Perched at the hilltop of Kefalos, east of the village of Marpissa, is the Agios Antonios Monastery.
A whitewashed basilica with two domes, it’s a 16th-17th century architectural marvel that dominates the plains of Paros’ east coast and is built within the ruins of a medieval castle’s wall.
To capture the impressive structure, I’d rather take a zoom-out shot because the hill is steep.
It’s safer to take pictures within the premises or take a close-up shot to highlight architectural details. Still, I promise you won’t run out of great spots to get the best angles.
Also, use soft morning light or warm evening glow to enhance the photos’ mood, atmosphere, and texture.
9. Santa Maria Beach
Location: Google Maps link
One of the liveliest beaches in Paros, Sta. Maria Beach is known for watersports and charming views of the island of Naxos and the village of Aliki.
It boasts a long stretch of golden sand bustling with water activities, bar happenings, and other seaside establishments.
Aside from the beautiful shoreline, I took shots of kitesurfers gliding along the waters, leaving big splashes of water behind them, and the fun-loving crowds as they enjoyed the DJ’s music and were having a great time socializing.
If you want to create a vibrant vibe of people and beach photos, experiment with different times of day to find out which type of natural light suits your style best.
10. Piso Livadi
Exact location: Google Maps link
About 2 kilometers from Marpissa, Piso Livadi is a picturesque fishing village you shouldn’t miss.
For the best day trips from Paros, you can get to nearby islands such as Naxos and Santorini from its marina.
The village is known for seafood and offers some of the best luxury hotels in Paros and luxury villas in Paros.
I just love capturing the fishing boats with an angle that includes the whitewashed village and the imposing hill of Kefalos, where Agios Antonios Monastery lies at the very top.
I used a wide lens to capture the dramatic landscape.
Aside from beautiful spots, capturing the story of a fishing village, like their hustles and bustles, are interesting shots to make.
11. Antiparos Caves
Exact location: Google Maps link
The lone vertical cave in Europe, Antiparos Caves will amaze you with exquisite stalactites and stalagmites as old as 45 million years.
They are an enchanting natural museum in Paros.
Situated on the hill of Agios Ioannis, the cave offers a view of Soros Beach and the surrounding inlets, impressive rock formations, and the beauty of Paros Island.
The cave is open from 10 am to 4 pm, April through October, and I recommend that you visit early so you can take more pictures and soak in the magnificent features of this rare site.
A sturdy tripod helps keep the shots crisp and detailed, which let you focus on cave formations. If you don’t feel like bringing one, use the night mode settings of your phone or cam.
12. Butterflies Valley (Petaloudes)
How to get there: Google Maps link
5 kilometers from Parikia, the Valley of the Butterflies, also known as Petaloudes Valley, is among Paros’ hidden gems.
It’s a rare sanctuary for Jersey Tiger Moth butterflies, which in summer cover the entire valley, creating a breathtaking natural occurrence.
The valley has dense vegetation, with beautiful trees that attract butterflies like magnets.
Numerous butterflies resting on tree trunks, bushes, and fruit leaves inspired me to take my shots with care. I also found the bricked watercourse arches worthy of a photograph; they look like ancient ruins.
There’s something magical about wildlife photos, but they require patience.
Minimize noise and maintain a safe distance from the butterflies. Longer focal lengths allow you to snap detailed pictures.
My final thoughts about Instagram spots in Paros
I promised myself to see quaint villages like Lefkes, the spectacular Antiparos cave, and the impressive ancient architecture in Paros again. Surely, there are more Instagrammable spots to explore.
Plan a trip that’s more than inspiring. Visit Paros, Greece, and capture the experience you can share through vibrant photos.
