The Utah Jazz entered the offseason coming off of yet another disappointing, early exit from the NBA postseason. It was the second straight year they were unable to take advantage of an injury their opponent suffered, as playoff shortcomings have become commonplace in Salt Lake City.
Danny Ainge was brought in during the regular season and he is known for overhauling rosters upon his arrival. This time it was no different with the Jazz, as he began the process during the offseason.
First, it was Royce O’Neale, who was traded to the Brooklyn Nets for a first-round pick in 2023. Next, Rudy Gobert was involved in a blockbuster trade, heading to the Minnesota Timberwolves. In exchange for the three-time Defensive Player of the Year, the Jazz received five players, four first-round picks and a pick swap.
That has set the bar for what Utah is expecting in a package for Donovan Mitchell. While the plan originally was to keep him, the Jazz are now open to calls and discussing deals centered around the 25-year-old three-time All-Star.
LATEST NBA NEWS AND RUMORS: 3 Non-Knicks Donovan Mitchell Trades For Utah Jazz To Consider
Thus far, the New York Knicks have emerged as the favorites to land him. They have the most assets to offer in a deal and have been biding their time when it comes to acquiring a star player. However, Utah has continued canvassing the league for other offers, as a deal with the Knicks may not be close.
Who else could emerge as a suitor for Mitchell? Here are two teams that are dark horse destinations for him.
