Draymond Green has been an integral part of the Golden State Warriors throughout his tenure with the franchise. While he may not be the most talented player that has donned the jersey during their dynasty, an argument could be made that he is the most important one. Could he leave next NBA offseason?
Green is the Warriors’ heart and soul, the team’s emotional leader. When he was injured last season, their performance on both ends of the court waned without him. Even when he returned to the sidelines, things improved but it wasn’t the same without him on the court.
It is easy to question the impact that he has given his statistical output, as Green averages a triple-single as Charles Barkley so eloquently put it. His 3-point shooting percentage has fallen off a cliff throughout his career as well. But, his presence is felt whenever he suits up for the team.
Green is arguably the most versatile defender in the NBA, which is where most of his value comes from. He can defend every position on the court and is key in Steve Kerr’s game plan on that end. Offensively, the offense runs smoother when he is out there as well, as he is their lead playmaker more often than not.
