The last few NBA seasons have been tumultuous for DeMarcus Cousins. It feels a lot longer, but it was only four seasons ago that many regarded Cousins as the best center in the NBA and people thought the New Orleans Pelicans were on the rise, pairing him with Anthony Davis in the frontcourt.
Cousins was a dominating force offensively as he could beat you in several ways. He used brute strength in the post to overpower opponents, but he also had the finesse and deft touch to operate from the perimeter. He shot 3-pointers well enough that you had to respect him out there and was also a willing playmaker.
The Kentucky product had made the All-Star team four consecutive seasons before injury struck. Heading towards a huge payday as a free agent, Cousins tore his Achilles, which dashed any hopes of landing a lucrative long-term contract. He signed with the Golden State Warriors that offseason to try and win a ring, but injuries struck again.
Cousins tore his quad in the second game of the 2019 NBA postseason. He wasn’t the only player to suffer an injury during that run, as Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant also suffered serious injuries. Cousins gave Golden State his all, as he wasn’t supposed to be back on the court for the NBA Finals but wanted to help his short-handed team.

He signed with the Los Angeles Lakers in free agency but didn’t even make it to the regular season. Cousins tore his ACL preparing for the season in August and missed the 2019-20 campaign.
Since then he has played on four teams. While not the dominating force he used to be, Cousins still produces solid numbers on a per-minute basis and has shown he is capable of helping a team win some games.
