In the NBA, specialists will always have a place.
We’re not talking about the league’s elite players. Typically, they excel in multiple areas of the game. Still, if you do one thing at an elite level on a basketball court, an NBA team will find a use for you.
For example, look at Malik Beasley. He’s not one of the most well-rounded players in the NBA, but if you need a shooter, Beasley is your man.
By contrast, Patrick Beverley has made a career out of playing elite defense. He’s not the most skilled player in the NBA, but he gives 100% effort in every game, and he can lock his man down.
Finally, Jakob Poeltl is a defensive specialist too, but he thrives on the interior, not the perimeter.
Could these three specialists find themselves on new teams this season?
