Mr. India

And it was one of the highest-grossing flicks released in 1987. While a Mr. India remake by itself would be fun to watch, it will be interesting to see Janhvi Kapoor step into the role. The actress has worked in a film that relies on special effects before, with the recent film Roohi.

Sadma

Sadma is perhaps Sridevi’s finest performance. The Balu Mahendra directorial is an emotional ride, with the actress effectively tugging at audiences’ heartstrings. She was convincing as Reshmi, a young woman who suffers from retrograde amnesia after a traumatic car accident. Due to her condition, she thinks and acts like an eight-year-old. Sridevi’s performance was nothing short of phenomenal. The film opened to middling box office numbers in 1983 but was eventually recognised as a cult favourite. The role would make for great material for Janhvi Kapoor. In fact, in an interview with a leading news portal, the Dhadak actress revealed that she would love to star in the remake of Sadma as the film left her emotional.

Chandni

In the ’80s, Chandni came as one of the rare heroine-centric films. The romantic drama directed by Yash Chopra featured Sridevi, Rishi Kapoor, and Vinod Khanna. While the film boasted a star-studded cast, it was a Sridevi show through and through. The actress was so graceful and stunning as Chandni, that it was difficult to look away. In fact, her look in the film quickly became an obsession. It would be interesting to see Janhvi Kapoor take on an iconic role like Chandni and give it her own spin.

Chaalbaaz

Sridevi’s acting chops are put on full display here. The film saw the actress take on the double role of twin sisters Anju and Manju. One was a timid character, while the other was boisterous. They were complete opposites, and yet the actress inhabited both roles with ease. Her performance won her a Filmfare award in the Best Actress category. Janhvi Kapoor has only a few films under her belt, but she has already explored quite a range between Ghost Stories and Good Luck Jerry, so it would be interesting to see her take on a double role at some point in her career.
