Flying by plane is by far one of the quickest, easiest, and safest ways to get from point a to point b. However, of course one has to find a way to get to the airport first.
The following are some of the best ways to get to the airport to catch your flight, along with the pros and cons of each method.
1. In Your Own Car
If you don’t mind parking your car overnight at the airport, sometimes it’s easiest just to drive yourself. This may not be an option in every situation, though.
Pros:
-
More comfortable taking your own vehicle
-
You won’t have to worry about arranging/catching public transport
-
You can head to the airport on your own time
Cons:
-
Not ideal if the airport is far away
-
Airport parking can be pricey
-
Your car will be left out in the open (safety issue)
-
May not be enough parking available
2. Taxi
One of the most popular ways to get to the airport would be by taking a taxi. One might flag down a taxi they see on the streets or even call up a taxi service to take advantage of this means of transport.
Pros:
-
Taxi drivers tend to know the fastest routes
-
One-on-one talk with your taxi driver as entertainment to shake those pre-flight nerves
-
Your taxi driver will take you to your exact drop-off location
Cons:
3. Rideshare Service
Rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are great options for transportation to jfk when taxis aren’t an ideal or available at the time. They work very much like a taxi, only that you typically select your final destination on the app prior to getting in the vehicle.
Pros:
-
You’ll get an estimated cost prior to booking your rideshare
-
If you get in a car accident, the rideshare company’s insurance will cover you
Cons:
-
Safety concerns for riders
-
Not all towns or cities have plenty of Uber or Lyft drivers; can take a while to find a driver
-
Sometimes there is a surge in pricing
4. Bus
If you aren’t in a hurry, sometimes taking a bus can be a swell option when heading to the airport.
Pros:
-
Very affordable cost, sometimes free
-
Bus routes can often be located at the bus stop or online
-
Lower air pollution
-
Cons:
-
You can’t ask your bus driver to go to a specific location
-
Buses only arrive at certain times
-
You might have other stops along the way
-
You’ll be sharing transportation with strangers
5. Train
Don’t forget that trains can be another potential way to get to the airport! Again, this all comes down to location you’re in and may not be an option everywhere.
Pros:
Cons:
-
Not ideal for short distances to the airport
-
Drop-off location is set; no asking to be taken to a specific location
-
Trains only arrive at certain times and are sometimes late
-
You’ll be sharing transportation with strangers
Conclusion
Arranging a plane to fly to your destination is one thing, but it’s another situation to have to figure out how you’re going to get to the airport. Will you drive yourself? What about taking a bus, taxi, rideshare service, or even a train? The option all comes down to the distance to the airport, your budget, the public transportation options available to you, and their conveniences.
