Single parents in Hempstead and Lafayette counties receive their scholarships from Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund.
Are you a single parent? Are you going back to school? Do you need money? Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund can help you with all three!
We connect single parents with the resources and support they need to become the best single parents they can be!
From now through Oct 15, we’re accepting applications for the Spring 2023 semester! Here are a few tips to help you apply!
Where do I apply?
At the top of aspsf.org/applynow, there is a red button with the word “Apply.” Clicking the button takes you to aspsf.submittable.com/submit, where you can begin the application process. New applicants will need to create an account.
You must submit all application materials by midnight, Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022.
How much is the single parent scholarship?
Our scholarships range from $300 to $1,200 per term. Award amounts are based on a variety of factors including enrollment status, credit hours, and length of program.
Also, we hand out checks to you! Our single parents choose how to spend their scholarship funds on the biggest obstacles to their education: gas, child care, textbooks, bills, laptop, school supplies, rent, utilities, etc.
What else is included in the scholarship?
You get more than a check! ASPSF provides development opportunities, workshops, and financial instruction — the soft skill training to transform our students into sought-after employees. We’ve hosted cooking classes, mental health courses, and a DIY sewing workshop.
Who can apply for the single parent scholarship?
Single parents living in Arkansas or Bowie County, Texas, who are enrolled full-time or part-time in an associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or trade school program can apply for our scholarship!
However, we do have a few other eligibility criteria. For example, recipients need to have a high school diploma or GED but not a bachelor’s degree. A full list of our eligibility criteria is here: aspsf.org/eligibility.
Does it matter which school I attend?
Our students attend a variety of in-person and online schools. We work with students to make sure that their school of choice is a quality program that offers a pathway to graduation and a career with family-supporting wages. Most of our students attend a school right here in Arkansas.
What are the steps to applying?
- Go to aspsf.submittable.com/submit.
- Create a free account on this application portal or sign in if you’ve already created an account.
- Fill out the first part of the application, which includes a few questions to determine if you are eligible for the scholarship.
- Fill out the second part of the application, where you enter and upload additional information about your school, career goals, classes, finances, demographics, household, etc. TIP: You don’t have to complete the application all at once. You can save a draft and submit later!
- Hit “Apply” at the bottom of the page.
- After you submit your application, ASPSF will review it and let you know if you qualify. New applicants will then be invited to an interview.
When will I find out if I will be awarded a scholarship?
Applications are reviewed by staff and volunteers, and this process takes time. You can always login to your Submittable account and check the status of your application.
What documents do I need to apply for a scholarship?
Before submitting your application, you’ll have to provide some documents including proof of your single-parent status, the first two pages of your most recent 1040 Federal Tax Return, your Pell Grant or FAFSA student aid report and a few other documents.
More information about the required documents is here: aspsf.org/required-documents.
I applied earlier this year for a Fall 2022 scholarship, is the application process different for me?
If you have already applied for the Fall 2022 scholarship, just log back into your Submittable account and apply for the Spring 2023 term by filling out another application.
