Australian racing driver, Calan Williams has parted company with Trident ahead of the final round of 2022 F2 season.
Williams’ departure comes after a difficult rookie season for the Perth-born Aussie driver who has scored just five points, which were all scored via a fourth-placed finish in the 2022 Saudi Arabian Sprint Race, having initially started third in the reverse grid race.
Results since have proven tricky with a best-placed finish of 11th position on four separate occasions, of which three of those finishes came in Spanish, French and Dutch Feature Races compared to just one Sprint Race in Hungary.
Williams has since used the extended break since the Italian Round to re-evaluate his future as he reflected on the season, which led him to issue the following statement about his F2 campaign: “Throughout the season, I know I demonstrated my capability at Formula 2 level.
“Jeddah was a great result and I have been very pleased with many of the races I have put together in my rookie season, often finishing just outside the points or experiencing misfortune when running inside the scoring positions.
“However, these things can happen in racing, and as the season progressed circumstances just did not fall my way.”
Williams then concluded that he feels that he is “now at a point where it is important that I consider what is the best path for me to pursue in the interests of my ongoing career in Motorsport.”
Trident’s Team Manager, Giacomo Ricci meanwhile described the opportunity to have Williams drive for the team as “a pleasure” after having built a “fruitful working relationship” across 13 rounds, as he hailed Williams as “a man, a professional and a driver of indisputable value.”
Ricci concluded by wishing the 22 year-old Aussie well in his future endeavours on behalf of the team, as he commented: “Trident Motorsport wishes Calan Williams and his management the best of luck in the upcoming professional challenges.”
