Former Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party running mate Martha Karua has refused to recognise William Ruto as the president of the Republic of Kenya after his win was upheld by the Supreme Court of Kenya.
Karua was on a political show on the BBC when she said the law accepted a Ruto presidency and not her.

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party led by Raila Odinga contested Ruto’s win in the August 9 General Election after Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairman Wafula Chebukati declared him as president-elect on August 15.

Deferred win, Martha Karua
After the disgruntled Azimio la Umoja team moved to the Supreme Court to seek the over-ruling of Ruto’s win, Karua was optimistic that the apex court would overturn the declaration made by Chebukati.
The vocal politician claimed their victory was deferred, but she assured their supporters that they will bring it home.
The politician said Azimio will explore all legal and constitutional avenues to ensure they get justice.
“Victory is deferred, but it’s coming home, and that is the message to everyone as we explore all legal and constitutional avenues,” Karua said.
Speaking on Wednesday, August 17, Karua insinuated that they might use the parliamentary process to overturn Ruto’s win.

“Our figures show that we command the National Assembly therefore, we must meet and plan how we will execute our mandate,” she added.
On his side, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka said their resolve to attain the country’s leadership remains unwavering.
Raila had accused Chebukati of usurping the will of the majority of Kenyans by bangling the outcome of the democratic process.
