Former Olympic swim coach Laurie Lawrence says the majority of young kids under the age of five that die from drowning occur in backyard pools and bathtubs.
“Last year we had 17 children under the age of five drown in Australia – that was just dreadful,” Mr Lawrence said.
“Those 17 that drowned last year – 136 others went to hospital from pool immersions.
“They were all close calls, we could’ve lost little kids.”
