South Australia has reported 1266 new cases of COVID-19 today and three deaths – a woman aged in her 90s, a man in his 80s and a man in his 90s.
There are 273 coronavirus patients in the state’s hospitals. Of the 22 people in intensive care, five require a ventilator.
According to SA Health, 167 of those hospitalised are fully vaccinated, 43 are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and the vaccination status of 63 patients is unknown.
Regarding COVID-19 vaccination, the health department said: “Boosters have been administered to 58.3 per cent of eligible South Australians and 40.7 per cent of South Australians aged 18 and over”.
There were 7031 PCR tests conducted yesterday.
Earlier today, South Australian Premier Steven Marshall said the government’s “thoughts are with the family of those people who have passed” after contracting the virus.
“The number of positive cases is down further [today], to 1266. So this is a very, very significant fall from where we were even just a few days ago.
“The number of COVID-positive patients in our hospitals also continues to fall. This is, again, the lowest we’ve had for quite some weeks.“
“South Australia is now top of the nation in terms of the booster program but I’m not satisfied, I want to see every eligible person in this state with that booster as quickly as possible, because we know this is our best chance to reduce that risk and then gradually further reduce the restrictions in South Australia and get back to a fairly normal March, April, May in the foreseeable future.”
Of today’s case numbers, 858 are from PCR tests and 408 are from rapid antigen tests.
