The back and forth over who is to blame for Sydney’s train shutdown today is ongoing, with Sydney Trains chief executive Mathew Longland giving an update this afternoon.
Mr Longland is outlining the negotiations between the Rail, Tram, and Bus Union (RTBU) and has backed Premier Dominic Perrottet’s comments about the network being “unsafe” to operate.
“We are absolutely focused on resolving this,” he said.
“What we were concerned about was passenger safety.
“He says there was a risk to customers due to the likelihood of delays and particularly vulnerable passengers becoming stranded.”
Mr Longland said he hopes trains will be operating again in the morning and negotiations will continue into the night.
There is still no definitive answer on whether things will be back to normal tomorrow.
Mr Longland’s warning is to “avoid rail travel” and to keep across updates before leaving the house.
