Aston Villa recorded a confidence-boosting 4-0 win against Southampton at Villa Park in the Premier League on Saturday, with Philippe Coutinho standing out for Steven Gerrard’s side.
Ollie Watkins kicked things off for Villa with a goal in the ninth minute and then Douglas Luiz doubled the hosts’ lead just before the half-time break. In the second half, Coutinho and former Southampton striker Danny Ings scored to make it a memorable day for Villa.
Coutinho managed to grab an assist for Luiz’s goal before netting Villa’s third, but Ings also deserves credit for grabbing a goal and two assists – for Watkins’ opener and later Coutinho’s strike.
This win moves Villa up to 11th in the table, while Southampton stay in ninth.
