A body has been found in the search for a missing South London man. Police have recovered a body close to South Norwood Lake and surrounding woodland this morning (Tuesday, March 8) during a search for Jamie Gilbey, 20, who went missing on February 27.
Police have erected a tent on Cantley Gardens, in South Norwood, and forensics teams remain on site. The family of Mr Gilbey have been made aware but police have yet to confirm the identity of the body.
He went missing at the end of February and was wanted in connection with an armed robbery. “Suspicious items” were found in the park close to Love Lane prompting a murder investigation as police believed Jamie may have come to some harm.
The road adjacent to the site where the body has been found has been cordoned off.
A witness at the scene told MyLondon that floodlights and portaloos have now been set up at the scene, with police set to remain there for much of this evening.
