Fuel prices are in crisis at the moment with the war in Ukraine and Western boycotts planned against energy giant Russia. The US’s proposal to avoid buying Russian energy has already pushed the price of oil up to nearly $140 a barrel which could get worse in the future.
Boris Johnson recently declared that the UK would stop using Russian oil by the end of 2022 and the EU vowed to reduce its use of Russian gas by two-thirds this year. As the world’s second-largest producer of oil, this boycott will hit the Russian economy but also the average UK citizen.
Consumers at the pumps may shed a tear after filling up their tank as some have predicted that the cost of a litre of fuel could be as high as £1.75, with some petrol stations already charging close to that amount. This will have a knock on effect on not just the cost of driving but almost everything we buy has a fuel cost for transporting it, a cost also likely to be passed on to the consumer.
With all the chaos surrounding petrol prices, drivers will be hunting for any small savings they can make to justify remaining on the road. Using data from petrolprices.com MyLondon has found some of the cheapest places to fill up as well as places you should avoid.
