The Elder Council of Nimba County has disassociated itself from claim made by the County Senator, Prince Johnson that President George M. Weah is after his life.
The Council through the Senior Advisor to the Elder Council of Nimba County also termed as “unfortunate” the statement from Sen. Johnson against the Liberian leader, something he said keep bring serious embarrassment to their County.
Recently, Senator Johnson who is the founder of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) accused the President and his party of plotting his assassination in response to his decision to withdraw political support from the CDC for the upcoming elections.
Additionally, the assassination accusation was originally advanced by Johnson’s party, which presented no proof but rather stated that their accusation was based intelligence originated from a trustworthy high-level government person.
But addressing a news conference at the National Traditional Council of Liberia, Albert Zoegwah Paye stated that Nimba county is a peaceful county and as such will not support Senator and his political party Johnson’s action.
He maintained, “Nimba County is a county that loves peace. Nimba County wants to maintain peace. We are sober-minded people. I have come to the Liberian people to let them know that Nimba County is embarrassed and confounded by the recent allegation alleged by our Senator against the President and his government.”
“We the people of Nimba County are not in favor and are not part of the statement made against the President; so, the statement made by Senator Johnson and his political party do not reflects the will and thought of the entire county.
“We are fed up with our Senator’s behavior. He does not respect us anymore. If he had something against the President, I’m the senior advisor to the elder council of the county. We have elders in the county, anything he supposed to get to us to seek advice.
“He (Senator Johnson) wants to bring trouble to our county. He wants to use these divisive politics in our county to deprive the people and the county of development because of his political greed,” Mr. Paye added.
