Luton midfielder, Jordan Clark has signed a long-term contract extension at the club.
Clark first joined the Hatters on a free transfer from League One’s Accrington Stanley at start of 2020-21 season, and has since gone on to score eight goals in 103 appearances across all competitions.
The 29 year-old also captained Luton for the first time in their Third Round replay win at Wigan Athletic in this season’s FA Cup.
Speaking about his latest contract extension, Clark praised the club for their progress in recent seasons as he commented: “It’s been an upward trajectory for the club and for myself since I signed.
“I didn’t start off playing amazingly, but I believe I’ve grown in the years that I’ve been here, the confidence has come and now, with the new deal, it’s all about timing.
“Why go anywhere else when I really love this club and I can see it improving all the time? The people who work here are just top people, they can’t do enough for you to make everything easier for you and give you the best to make you play your best on a matchday.
“My partner, Chelsea, and my little boy, George, are all settled down here now, and that is obviously a massive thing.”
Clark also acknowledged the passionate support of fans as Luton currently sit fifth in the Championship and seven points off second-placed Sheffield United, who occupy the final automatic promotion spot and will host the Hatters on Saturday 11 March at Bramall Lane.
Addressing what it means to play for Luton in front of the fans and with his current teammates as they push for promotion to the Premier League, Clark said: “But I just love being here. I love playing in front of the fans and the big thing for me is this squad, these lads.
“If we can keep everyone together, because fingers crossed this is going to be a really exciting end to the season, who knows what’s going to happen?
“That’s the best thing about football. We don’t fear anyone and we are just excited. The feel-good factor is there. We are in a real good place and the lads are relishing every game that comes.”
Manager, Rob Edwards added that despite only coaching Clark for four months, he has been impressed by the midfielder’s “brilliant form” and attitude.
On how important Clark is to the squad between now and end of season plus beyond, Edwards added: “Everyone will see the lovely touches that he has, the little flicks and bits of skill, and we want that to continue.
“But his work-rate, his endeavour and his honesty are so valuable, plus he’s scored a couple of really important goals and we want him to continue to be more of a goal threat, because we’ve seen that he’s got it in him.”
Edwards also iterated that Luton are “lucky” to retain Clark as he concluded: “His all-round play has been brilliant and for us to get him to sign him a longer contract shows the ambition of the club.
“I think it’s really important to keep our best players around, because I genuinely believe that Clicker could play for anyone.
“He’s shown that he’s a top player at this level and we are really lucky to have him at the football club.”
