A “potentially life-threatening” tornado is sweeping across Florida, leaving millions on alert.
The freak weather system is set to move into the peninsula of the state, with 70mph winds reported.
Aerial footage shows homes in complete tatters as the state begins to deal with the devastation caused by the tornado.
The National Weather Service says “ping pong ball size” pieces of hail will rain down on Florida, before issuing an emergency warning to those in the region on Thursday night.
Speaking from its base in Tallahassee, the organisation said that “flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter”, adding: “Take cover now. Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows.
“If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.”
