Ange Postecoglou has made history as the first Australian to manage a Premier League club, after Spurs confirmed his appointment.
Speculation had been growing that Postecoglou would leave Scottish Premier side Celtic, to go to the North London club.
Reports had said Postecoglou had verbally agreed terms with Spurs, leaving only an agreement for compensation to Celtic.
On Tuesday the deal was completed, with Spurs announcing the 57-year-old had signed a four-year contract as head coach.
Chairman Daniel Levy said the club was excited to have Postecoglou join as they prepare for the season ahead.
“Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play. He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy — everything that is important to our club,” he said.
He replaces Italian manager Antonio Conte, who left Spurs in March by “mutual agreement” after a furious post-match rant at the club and its management.
The move is the next step in a brilliant career for Postecoglou, who finishes his time with Celtic with five pieces of silverware in two seasons at Parkhead.
The Australian led the Hoops to back-to-back Scottish Premier League titles, back-to-back Scottish League Cup wins, and finished his time at Celtic with a 3-1 victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Cup final.
Postecoglou has previously won league titles in Australia and Japan with Brisbane Roar and Yokohama F Marinos respectively, and coached the Socceroos at the 2014 World Cup finals and to the 2018 World Cup.
Spurs, who reached the Champions League final as recently as 2019, finished the Premier League season in eighth place, 29 points behind champions Manchester City.
The job of managing Spurs will most likely involve a rebuild, with reports suggesting star striker Harry Kane could be sold to Real Madrid in the off-season, triggering a clear-out of personnel.
