Another tragedy hits Pakistani sports on the holy day of Eid-Ul-Adha as snooker star Majid Ali commits suicide in his hometown of Samundri, Faisalabad. He was 28 years of age.
According to reports from Pakistani media, snooker star Majid Ali, an Asian Under-21 silver medallist, ended his life on Thursday, June 29th, using a wood-cutting machine. According to his brother Umer, Majid has suffered from depression since his teenage years.
Alamgir Sheikh, the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker chairman, said that his tragic death had saddened the entire sports community. He reportedly had no financial issues. The real cause of his depression is still unknown.
For the Pakistani snooker community already grieving Mohammad Bilal’s passing due to cardiac arrest last month, this is the second such tragic news in a month.
Pakistan has recently been seen making some great achievements in snooker on the international level. Among others, players such as Muhammad Yousuf and Muhammad Asif helped win the World and Asian Championship titles, with a few players even graduating to the professional circuit.
