Several people are feared dead after a trailer fell on a 14-seater matatu at Miti Mbili area near Turbo along the Webuye-Eldoret highway.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a source at the scene confirmed that the Sunday morning, July 3, the accident occurred after the trailer overturned on the matatu, reportedly full of passengers.
In photos that went viral online, firefighters based in Uasin Gishu county had arrived at the scene in a bid to control traffic flow.

The accident had caused a traffic snarl-up as a crowd had gathered around the scene in order to aid the victims.
Media reports indicate that a 14-seater matatu rammed into a tipper truck that had stalled on the road. After the collision, another matatu parked on the side of the road to aid the victims and rush them to a nearby hospital.
Unfortunately, a trailer en route to Webuye rammed into the second matatu before overturning and trapping the matatu.
Witnesses at the scene tried to rescue the trapped passengers by lifting the trailer. Several passengers were rushed to hospital with grave injuries while others are yet to receive medical attention.
According to the latest report by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), a total of 1,968 fatalities had been recorded from January 2022 to June 2022- noting a 9.3 percent increase as opposed to the same period the previous year.
Out of the 1,968 deaths, 622 pedestrians lost their lives, followed by 545 motorcyclists, 322 passengers, and 192 pillion passengers.
Police spokesperson Bruno Shioso recently urged road users to adhere to traffic laws to avoid more fatalities.
“The National Police Service and the National Transport and Safety Authority have noted with concern an alarming increase in road traffic crashes incidences on our roads. The two agencies, viz NPS and NTSA further regret all the fatalities and injuries as a result of these unfortunate crashes,” he noted.
