Tottenham Hotspur has signed Ellie Brazil on a free transfer from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Brazil began her career at Derby County before joining Midlands rivals, Birmingham City in 2016 where she made 10 appearances across 2016 Women’s Super League (WSL) and 2017 WSL Spring Series seasons.
The now 23 year-old striker then joined Italy’s Fiorentina for 2017-18 season where she scored three goals in 20 appearances, prior to returning to England in summer 2018 with Brighton where she has spent the last four seasons.
During her time with the Seagulls, Brazil scored four goals and provided three assists in 56 senior appearances but opted not to renew her contract last week following the expiration of her previous deal.
Brighton’s Head Coach, Hope Powell yesterday (5 July) issued the following statement on Brazil’s departure as she said: “Ellie has been with us for a long time, so naturally it’s sad to say goodbye.
“She’s been a good player for us, as well as showing real resolve to come back from a serious knee injury and become an important member of the squad again.
“We thank Ellie for her contributions during her four years here and wish her the best for the future.”
Brazil has now signed for Tottenham as a free agent as the North London club looks to build on their fifth-placed finish of last season.
Spurs’ Head Coach, Rehanne Skinner has confirmed that she is “really pleased” to sign Brazil on a two-year contract until June 2024, with option for one further season.
Explaining why Tottenham have swooped to sign Brazil, Skinner commented: “Having had significant experience across the England youth teams and played club football at home and in Europe, she has a vast experience base that will enhance the team, but has years ahead of her in her career as well.
“Ellie is a versatile forward who is hard-working and committed, and she will add a further dimension to our forward line.”
