Cologne (dpa) – Gamescom, the world’s largest computer game fair, began in Cologne on Tuesday evening. During a show in the cathedral city, the event organisers presented a series of new games in which the protagonists are soldiers, knights or science fiction warriors battling against villains and monsters. For gaming fans, the Opening Night Live is a major event – last year, the live show was accessed 13 million times online, according to the organisers.
On Wednesday, Gamescom opened its doors to industry professionals and journalists, and from Thursday to Sunday it will be open to the general public. Gamescom attracted 265,000 visitors in 2022. The number of exhibitors has increased from 1,135 to 1,227 from 63 countries. The exhibition area has been expanded by 10,000 to 230,000 square metres. From the world of politics, North Rhine-Westphalia’s Premier Hendrik Wüst and German Economics Minister Robert Habeck are expected to visit the fair.
