Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, said his aadministration was working hard and perfecting new plans to serve Lagos residents better, and urged the people to support the government to achieve a greater Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu spoke at the ongoing Second Session of the 35th Synod of the Diocese of Lagos, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) holding at Our Saviour’s Church, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
The event is themed ‘The Earnest Expectations of The Sons of God’.
The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, thanked Lagos residents for re-electing him for a second term in office and urged them to consider the suffering they could be experiencing now as minor compared to better things he said would soon begin to come their way.
He said his cabinet held a retreat in Epe on how to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people, noting that the recent launch of the Blue rail line, which has improved movement of people in the metropolis, transportation-wise, was the beginning of great things to come towards achieving a greater Lagos.
The governor congratulated the new Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos and President of Synod, The Rt. Rev. Ifedola Senasu Gabriel Okupevi, on his consecration and enthronement, tasking the cleric to use his spiritual position to revolutionise the work of God and uplift Lagos State.
Other dignitaries at the event were the bishop’s wife, Mrs. Modupe Okupevi; erstwhile Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos, Bishop of Lagos and Dean Emeritus of the Church of Nigeria, The Most Rev. Ephraim Adebola Ademowo; His wife, Oluranti; Archbishop of Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos and Bishop of Remo, The Most Rev. Michael Olusina Fape; the Bishop, Diocese of Lagos West, Rt. Rev. James Olusola Odedeji; former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Victoria Adejoke Orelope Adefulire; her husband, Chief Abiodun Adefulire and the Bishop of the Diocese on the Coast, Rt. Rev. Oluseyi Pirisola.
In his charge read to the Synod, Okupevi described Sanwo-Olu as a trailblazer, innovative leader and a reformer, who is driving Lagos to attain the status of Africa’s smartest city.
According to him, the governor has taken steps to touch every area of human capacity development, increased income generation of the state and recorded enviable results in infrastructural development of Lagos.
Okupevi called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently implement promised measures to cushion the excruciating effects of the oil subsidy removal and other policies aimed at reviving the ailing economy of the country.
He lamented the involvement of youths in ritual activities due to unemployment and the security challenges, urging Tinubu to tackle the security challenge and the poor electricity supply in the country.
Also in attendance were many other bishops and archbishops.
