Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere Review
Visiting Vienna, the capital of Austria, is akin to taking a step back in time and entering a realm where art, culture, and history meld seamlessly into every corner. Amid this setting, the Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere by Hyatt isn’t just another luxurious place to rest your head; it’s a welcoming sanctuary in this beautiful, vibrant city.
Well-located in the heart of Vienna’s Quartier Belvedere, the five-star hotel is close to the main train station and other transport hubs, which was very convenient for us. Belvedere Palace, a Baroque masterpiece and a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a short stroll away. So is the Museum of Military History, and the Belvedere 21 Modern Art Museum where Andaz guests get free entry.
We arrived by train from Budapest and took a quick walk to the hotel. The word “Andaz” means style in Hindi and the Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere draws inspiration from the style of Prince Eugene of Savoy, a 17th-century visionary who had a significant influence on Vienna’s art and architecture. This theme is evident as you step into the hotel and are greeted by its contemporary, art-inspired interiors that pay homage to the historical essence of the city.
After a warm welcome and an early check-in, formalities were completed, and we were guided to our room. There are 303 spacious rooms and suites at the Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere, located in two tall buildings connected by a glass bridge.
The rooms feature modern designs with hints of Viennese charm, and offer views of either the city skyline, the Belvedere Palace gardens, or the hotel’s own gardens. Art is showcased everywhere – on the room walls, behind bathroom and closet doors, and even in the individually designed floor numbers on each floor – a veritable art gallery within a hotel.
Our room had a comfortable king-sized bed, a working desk, a couch and a huge television with 75 channels.
Full-length glass windows with button-operated curtains showcased great views of the city.
Plush bathrobes, comfy orange slippers, an Illy coffee machine and a complimentary minibar indulged us further.
So did the very sweet, and creative welcome in the form of delectable, flavoured pralines served as a painter’s palette.
After settling in, we were tempted to just relax and enjoy our room, however, our short time in Vienna prompted us to go and explore the magnificent Belvedere Palace, the former home of Prince Eugene, and other attractions in close proximity.
Vienna is a city celebrated for its culinary delights, and breakfast at Eugen21, the hotel’s in-house restaurant, was especially enjoyable. The restaurant serves a delicious fusion of traditional Austrian fare with a modern twist. A vegan section is also available. We enjoyed eggs royale, Viennese-inspired apple bread pudding, cream-filled croissants and many more culinary delights.
Aurora, the hotel’s outdoor rooftop lounge on the 16th floor, is inspired by the Northern Lights and is a popular place to enjoy panoramic views of the city, especially at sunset. We were pleasantly surprised to be welcomed there by a fellow South African, who recognised our accents. We then enjoyed delicious mocktails while the setting sun transformed the horizon into a brilliant orange canvas.
The Health and Wellness area on the 4th floor overlooks the city and offers a 24-hour fitness centre equipped with the latest exercise equipment, a sauna, a steam bath with an ice fountain and a relaxation room. A wide range of massages and other treatments are available too. Unfortunately, we didn’t get an opportunity to experience them on this trip though.
The Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere has a strong focus on sustainability. Special care was taken during construction to make it one of the most climate-neutral hotels in the Vienna and it has implemented several other energy-saving measures too. Plastic and paper usage is reduced wherever possible and charging stations are available for electric vehicles. The hotel’s food philosophy includes purchasing local food and beverages, following a farm-to-table strategy and obtaining seafood from sustainable fisheries.
The Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere is more than just a luxurious stay. It is a harmonious blend of Vienna’s past and present, and an ode to its art and culture. Whether you’re in Vienna for business or leisure, the hotel promises a memorable stay. And when its time to explore the city, the hotel’s knowledgeable staff will be happy to offer recommendations and assist with arrangements.
