(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, July 18 (KUNA) — Egypt were deserved winners of the 2022 African Men’s Handball Championships for the eighth time on record, beating Cape Verde on home soil on Monday.
The Pharoahs achieved a 12-goal marginal triumph in a 37-25 scoreline over the West African archipelago nation, who reached their first-ever final at Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall.
The first half, which ended 24-12, saw Karim Handaway outclass Cape Verde’s attempts at goal as the defending champions pillared towards victory.
The hosts’ left winger Omar El-Wakil gave a standout performance in the second half, earning him man of the match.
This win gives Egypt a first class ticket to the 2023 Poland-Sweden Handball World Cup, as well as the other four nations trailing.
Of those teams is Morocco, following a 28-24 win over Tunisia for third spot, trailed by Algeria in fifth. (end)
