Solo trips have become all the rage over recent years, and I’m here to controversially say that I ditched solo traveling to travel with my parents instead. This may seem wild to consider for some, but traveling with my parents has been a game-changer and upgraded the overall quality compared to solo traveling. Keep reading to learn why I ditched solo trips to travel with my parents instead and why you should consider it!
1. Memory Making
One of the most obvious reasons for ditching solo trips and traveling with your parents is memory-making. Though memories can be made without others involved, sharing these special moments with people you love is such an enriching human part of life to cherish.
Whether it be snorkeling through the beautiful waters of Hawaii or those moments that make you belly laugh that you cry, sharing them with your parents will stay with you forever to keep close to your heart.
2. Get To Know Your Parents In A New Setting
With new experiences come new opportunities to grow and learn. Traveling with your parents, whether as a teenager, young adult, or middle-aged career goer, opens up a chance to get to know your parents in a new setting and, hopefully, with a more mature mindset for all parties. This can help heal old wounds while making heartwarming memories with loved ones to cherish forever.
3. Someone To Lean On
Solo travel sounds great, but when you’re traveling alone, you’re literally completely on your own. That means no one to back you up if you’ve lost your wallet, run into a handsy stranger, or can’t say no to an insistent sales vendor. Having your parents along on the trip can be beneficial, with familiar loved ones to lean on in times of stress when traveling.
4. Time Doesn’t Stop For Anyone
Something we all don’t want to consider is that time doesn’t stop for anyone, and tomorrow is not guaranteed for any of us. Ditching solo travel to travel with your parents can be the perfect opportunity to make special memories with your special loved ones to look back on.
5. Tick Off Each Other’s Travel Bucket Lists
Bucket lists are a spectacular way to achieve things that you wish to accomplish during your lifetime. Traveling with your parents can be the perfect way to tick off each other’s bucket lists in one go while also making long-lasting memories together to kill two birds with one stone.
From taking a river cruise through Europe to eating sushi in Japan, it’s time to start checking off that travel bucket list with your parents!
6. Add Some Flavor To Your Travels
In my opinion, traveling alone can be nice for only so long. Sharing moments with others can be fruitful for memory-making while adding some flavor to your travels. Whether it be comedic timing or conversations spreading joy and awe over beautiful places, having your parents to share these with will prove to be just the touch needed for your travels.
7. Financial Woes
Not everyone is financially able to travel across the planet to grab an authentically made gelato and cappuccino from Italy or see the Eiffel Tower in Paris in person on their own. Traveling with your parents can be a great way to minimize costs. It doesn’t necessarily need to be you taking advantage of your parents, but more often than not, they will pay for dinner as they did when you were a kid.
Traveling as a group can also save costs for activities with cool discounts to apply to excursions, travel points to save on flight costs, and so on.
8. Share The Joys Of New Adventures
New adventures can produce joy and awe at the landscapes, the history, and the culture of lands you’ve never experienced in person. From authentic cuisines and historical structures to breathtaking natural beauty and culturally rich societies, so much can inspire and impact others experiencing these firsthand. Sharing the joys of new adventures with your parents can be some of the most impactful moments in your and their lives.
9. Strengthen The Ties Between Loved Ones
Experiences bring people together and strengthen the ties between loved ones. The woes of waiting through TSA, the highs of landing in a new place waiting to be adventured, and all the in-betweens can build a stronger bond between you and your parents. Traveling with them can enrich your conversations, empower often much-needed bonding time, and be just the trip needed to get to know each other better as mature individuals.
10. Try Activities You May Otherwise Overlook
As individuals with separate personalities, mindsets, and values, we all have different tastes, which often coincide with the accomplishments we wish to achieve over our lifetime. Traveling with your parents can be just the move you both need to try activities you may otherwise overlook and find yourselves enjoying!
