The Golden State Warriors are a likely landing spot for Carmelo Anthony this offseason.
As reported by Sean Deveney of Heavy.com, an anonymous general manager within the association sees the future hall of famer gaining interest and being chased by the defending champs for a possible signing.
“It would be a nice story if he could win a ring there to end his career,” the executive told Deveney. “Golden State has the room for him. He can make shots and they can hide up his defense, which is one of the big problems with adding him. He’d take the minimum. They have a lot of young guys on that roster, they could do with another veteran, and those guys all know Carmelo from Team USA. I do not know if they would really take that plunge on him, but it does make some sense.”
Further noted by Deveney, a potential reunion with LeBron James in the Los Angeles Lakers, or a minimum deal with either New York Knicks or Brooklyn Nets are options for Anthony this summer, who remains unsigned as a free agent.
An NBA championship remains elusive and missing in Anthony’s legendary resumé, and joining the Dubs might finally get him one before hanging up his basketball shoes and call it a career.
Indeed, both sides may benefit with each other. Golden State, fresh from their title exploits, wasn’t able to retain bench spark plug Otto Porter Jr., who joined the Toronto Raptors. Given that Anthony plays with similar role and position, Dubs might have to consider in handing an offer.
As such, it’s still almost two months past this offseason. Anthony’s veteran presence, improved professionalism, and scoring reliability could still gain a plenty of proposals moving forward.
