Queensland Premier Steven Miles has been caught “giggling away” at a reporter’s question about youth crime while alleged offenders continue to walk free on bail, according to Sky News host Chris Kenny.
It comes after a 16-year-old was charged with the murder of Queensland grandmother Vyleen White in a shopping centre.
The Premier denied laughing at a question on the issue by Sky News Australia Brisbane Bureau Chief Adam Walters at the Queensland Media Club on Tuesday.
“No one in Queensland, myself included, is laughing at this tragedy and for any news outlet to suggest so is disrespectful,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“A family and a community is grieving. Sensational headlines and misrepresentations have no part to play in Queensland this week.”
Aged Care Minister Anika Wells also seemed to suggest the Queensland Premier was copping unfair treatment during an interview with Nine’s Today program.
“Really? That’s the problem now, pollies being called out for smiling. Not an idiotic and uncaring Premier laughing off questions about youth crime and policing in Queensland?” Mr Kenny said.
