Casner Fire Burns 180 Acres and Prompts Evacuations in Southern California

The Casner fire burning about 40 miles northeast of San Diego, California, prompted evacuations on Wednesday, July 27, with the fire spreading over 180 acres, officials said. Aerial footage released by Cal Fire/San Diego County Fire shows smoke rising from charred land surrounded by fire retardant east of the community of Ramona. The brush fire was 35 percent contained by Thursday morning, Cal Fire said. On July 27, the San Diego Sheriff’s Office said those who had evacuated due to the blaze could return home, but said that an evacuation warning was still in place in the area. “It means there’s still a potential threat of flareups, and you should be prepared to leave quickly if advised to do so,” officials said.
