Australia’s Georgia Baker crosses the line in the women’s 25km points race(AP)

We’ve told you about the disappointment for Matt Glaetzer in the men’s sprint, but it has been a very successful night for Australia in the velodrome.

Georgia Baker produced a big performance in the women’s 25km points race, taking gold ahead of Scotland’s Neah Evans and Wales’ Eluned King.

She  finished the race with 55 points, well clear of Scotland’s Evans on 38 and King on 32.

Fellow Australians Chloe Moran came seventh on 25 points, while Maeve Plouffe was 16th on zero points.

Swimming: McKeon, Barratt and Perkins to race for medals in 50m butterfly

Golden girl Emma McKeon has made it look easy in the first semi-final of the women’s 50m butterfly, with Alex Perkins not far behind her, placing third.

Holly Barratt flew through to finish second in the second heat just behind Canada’s Maggie MacNeil.

Barratt won silver in this event in 2018 — can the Aussies get another clean sweep in this event?!

Swimming: Woodward and Armbruster qualify for 50m backstroke finals

We’ll have two Aussie competitors in the men’s 50m backstroke final — but Mitch Larkin has fallen short, and will not be one of them.

Bradley Woodward and Ben Armbruster both placed second in their respective heats, which was enough to qualify, so we’ll see them again racing for medals.

Fellow Aussie Gerrard Gosens and his guide Hayden Armstrong came in a really impressive sixth.

Cycling: Australia’s Matt Glaetzer relegated from bronze medal in the men’s sprint

It’s been a tough Commonwealth Games for Australian cyclist Matt Glaetzer.

He was involved in a high-speed crash at the velodrome yesterday in the second round of the keirin.

He was lucky to be able to limp away without serious injury – but now Glaetzer has had a heartbreaking end to his next event, the men’s sprint.

Glaetzer was in the bronze medal final with Scotland’s Jack Carlin. The best-of-three event went to a decider, and Glaetzer appeared to have won the day.

However after a VERY long period of discussion with the judges, Glaetzer was relegated to fourth, after it was decided that the Australian had impeded Carlin’s sprint.

Add another one to the tally!

Jacob Birtwhistle, Natalie van Coevorden, Matt Hauser and Sophie Linn have clinched the bronze in the mixed team relay triathlon.

The Aussies snuck in just three seconds behind second-placed Wales, and England won the gold.

Hauser also won bronze in the individual sprint tri earlier in the Games.

Two Commonwealth Games cyclists taken to hospital after dramatic crash at the velodrome

An English cyclist goes flying in the air towards the stands as crowds flinch and other cyclists lie on the track.
England’s Matt Walls and Canada’s Derek Gee in a crash during the men’s scratch race heats at the Commonwealth Games(AP/PA)

Three cyclists have been taken to hospital and spectators have been injured following a horrific crash during a heat of the men’s scratch race at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

England’s Matt Walls and Isle of Man’s Matt Bostock were involved in the crash along with several other riders.

Walls was catapulted over the barriers and into the crowd at the Lee Valley VeloPark. The 24-year-old received treatment for more than 40 minutes before leaving the velodrome in an ambulance.

In total, three cyclists and two spectators were injured in the incident. Team England has put out a statement:

“Following medical treatment in hospital, Matt Walls has been discharged with stitches in his forehead, but thankfully no major injuries. We send our best wishes to all other riders and spectators involved in the crash and thank the medical teams for their expert care.

? Gymnastics: Gold for Georgia Godwin in the women’s all-around finals

There has been a lot going on overnight in Birmingham, and we’ll get to all the goings on at the velodrome in a minute – but first a golden moment for Australia in gymnastics!

Georgia Godwin, who took a silver and two bronzes at the Gold Coast in 2018, and won silver as part of Australia in the team even yesterday, has completed the set!

Earlier this morning she took gold in the women’s all-around final, beating England’s Ondine Achampong and Canada’s Emma Spence.

Godwin was in the mix the whole way, but took the lead after a 13.750 on balance beam, before nailing her routine on floor to finish with 53.550, well clear of Achampong in silver (53.000) and Spence in bronze (52.350).
