Portuguese forward, Diogo Jota has signed a new long-term contract at Liverpool until 2027.
Jota first arrived in English Football with Wolves in Summer 2017 initially on loan and went on to score 44 goals in 131 appearances across all competitions over three seasons, which ultimately saw Liverpool swoop for the Portugal international in September 2020.
The Portuguese striker has since gone on to score 34 goals in 85 senior appearances for Liverpool, whilst he also helped the club achieve a domestic cup double last season of EFL Cup and FA Cup.
Jota though wasn’t part of Liverpool’s squad for their victory over Manchester City in the season-opening 2022 Community Shield last weekend, as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.
The 25 year-old though told Liverpoolfc.com that he is “proud” to sign a new deal to remain at Anfield until June 2027.
Jota went on to add that he is proud of his role in the team across the last two seasons and is happy to commit for the long-term, as he said: “Obviously since I arrived two years ago I established myself as an important player in this team – that’s what I wanted from the beginning.
“Now, signing a new long-term deal, it’s obviously from the club’s perspective proof of the belief in myself as a player. For me, obviously it’s really good to establish I’ll be here for a while.”
Jota isn’t the only player to have signed a new contract this summer, with James Milner, Mohamed Salah and Joe Gomez also signing new contracts to extend their stays at Anfield, whilst manager – Jurgen Klopp signed a two-year contract extension in April.
Liverpool meanwhile have sold Ben Davies, Neco Williams, Takumi Minamino and Sadio Mane to Rangers, Nottingham Forest, AS Monaco and Bayern Munich respectively this summer.
Fabio Carvalho, Darwin Nunez and Calvin Ramsay meanwhile have all joined the club over the summer.
