Antoine Walker played with Paul Pierce in his prime and won a championship with Dwyane Wade. He used to have the best seats in the house watching the best scorers in NBA history go to work. That is why when people compare the careers of Pierce and Wade, the three-time NBA All-Star is on the fence.
Walker explains why he couldn’t pick Wade over Pierce on the All the Smoke podcast.
“I get disappointed when the respect is not there for Paul. And I hate that. I know, you know, basketball, playing competitive, got game, ain’t many tougher than Paul.
And I think that we hear his argument, you know, I think it comes from… You know, people got favorites. Dwyane’s a fan favorite in the world… He from Chicago, I love him to death.
And, a funny story, I need to add to that. So I went to Dwyane Wade had a celebration for going to the Hall of Fame. So I want to pay my respects in Chicago. And guess what conversation he wanted to have? This one.
He like, bro? Why ain’t you defending me, man? You know, we’re from Chicago. I’m like, D, he tough. I told D he tough. I said, man, Paul as tough as they come. Paul ain’t back down from nobody. But I saw Paul go against everybody. Like, he don’t back down. I saw him put numbers up against everybody.
So, I think, the way Paul did it probably should’ve give him more respect D-Wade and just falt out said he better than him. But that’s how confident Paul is when it comes to basketball.“
Antoine Walker on the Pierce-Wade comparisons
The Pierce-Wade comparisons originated from a This or That segment on ESPN. The Boston Celtics legend thought he had a better career than Wade and everybody clowned him.
That said, career-wise, the Miami Heat icon probably had the edge. The 13-time All-Star had more All-NBA selections and made an All-Defensive team three times.
However, as Walker said, Pierce’s game is effortless and practically unstoppable. He never made an All-Defensive team, but Pierce has a varied mid-range game and shot over 40 percent from deep on three separate seasons. The 10-time All-Star may say crazy things like he’s more clutch than LeBron James or Europeans aren’t tough, but he can hoop.
Do you think Wade is a better player than Pierce? Or is it the other way around?
