Al-Zawahiri death a ‘classic deflection’ from China ‘problem’

Former CIA officer Ray McGovern says the successful operation to take out al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri was a “classic deflection of attention” from the “real problem” of China.

He said he sees the timing as “very odd”.

“My reaction was when I heard President Biden would be coming on TV last night was ‘oh he’s going to talk about Nancy Pelosi and perhaps war with China’,” he told Sky News Australia.

“Well, he didn’t mention that at all.”
