A man, Celestine Onele, an Electrical Engineer from Ezza South Local Council of Ebonyi State has said that he is set to break 100 hours World Guinness marathon ironing record and set a new World Record of 150 hours from Monday, April 22, 2024.
Briefing journalists in Abakaliki, Onele, who is currently pursuing his master’s degree at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, said that he has secured approval from Guinness for the 150 hours of marathon ironing, with rules that must be strictly adhered to for the record.
He noted that he is mentally sound for the event, which will be held in an event centre in Abakaliki, the state capital, urging the public to bring their clothes for ironing to break the record.
Onele said that he had always liked ironing from childhood, which motivated him to seek the record, and that he aims to beat Garric Standard from the United Kingdom (UK) and Huston from Australia, who had broken the record in the past.
Before the Garric Standard, the current record holder was Huston from Australia. So, she broke the record in 2012 with 80 hours before Garric did in 2015 for 100 hours.
So, after Garric Standard did, Guinness approved some individuals who had attempted the record but didn’t get the acknowledgment because there were so many rules they tempered with.
