Orlando Pirates may be ready to engage in a swap deal in order to sign their new striker target.
It is no secret that Pirates are looking to revamp their attacking department and have looked high and wide.
The club was already active in the January transfer window but didn’t sign any attackers. The likes of Thabiso Lebitso and Talent Mbatha were roped in by Pirates, who then saw Bienvenu Eva Nga released. Then perhaps, the biggest outgoing was that of club stalwart Thembinkosi Lorch. The playmaker shocked the local football fraternity by securing a deadline-day move to rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.
It is not expected that Pirates will be as idle when it comes to attacking signing in the off-season, however. The club have already been linked to a plethora of targets in that department. Some of those targets have been touted to be closer to joining than others.
Pirates interested in Cupido
On Tuesday, this publication reported that Pirates have returned to former striker target Ashley Cupido ahead of next season. Now according to Soccer-Laduma, they may be willing to let young fan favourite Boitumelo Radiopane go the other way permanently.
“If all goes according to plan then Radiopane could stay at Spurs while Cupido could move to Pirates. But as you have heard, it will depend on the status of Spurs in the DStv Premiership. If they are relegated or not. The deal may depend on that right now but Pirates have been monitoring Cupido since last season when Spurs were in the Motsepe Foundation League and they are happy with the process of the young striker,” said the source.
Willing to swap Radiophane to Spurs
Radiopane has been on loan to Spurs for two seasons now. His first stint was very successful as his goals alongside Cupido helped the team gain promotion. He has struggled with injuries this season and that may see Pirates willing to let the player go permanently.
