You might have come across one of those viral videos from the latest episode of ‘The Blind Date Show’, which has always been controversial, especially with renowned guests or social media influencers making appearances in the episodes. But this time, it was not only the identity of the guest or the show’s theme that grabbed everyone’s attention.
In that intense conversation, the man on the date boldly stated, without even knowing who his blind date was, that she could be successful and accomplished, but only if we’re evaluating a resume, not a potential partner in a romantic relationship.
So, are we still grappling with the categorization of gender and engaging in fruitless discussions about the roles of women in society and life?
Success in the workplace transcends gender boundaries and has been discussed over and over again with inspiring examples of both males and females excelling in their careers. If success is not limited to one gender in the professional realm, then it logically follows that success as a partner should not be limited to one gender, correct?
This conversation feels like a step backward, echoing the outdated debates about women being successful at work. Now, it’s about their success in life as a whole.
A mother can excel in her career while being there for her children. A partner can pursue her professional passion and still make quality time for her loved ones. If men are perceived as unable to balance both life and career, the same could then be said for women.
However, the truth is that both men and women are capable of achieving balance and success in all areas of life. So, let’s move away from these nonsensical conversations and, most importantly, avoid giving a platform to those who promote such stereotypes to pull us back.
