Berlin (dpa) – Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann has selected 27 players for his preliminary EURO 2024 squad. EURO 2024 in Germany will begin on 14 June when the hosts play Scotland in Munich. The German head coach gave a nuanced summary of the team’s objectives: “We will try to win the title, that I can promise you, and will do everything we can to achieve this.” But even if the DFB team were eliminated in some knockout phase he might still rate it as a good European Championship, Nagelsmann added. The key to rating the tournament is the way the team presents itself, he believes.
The core of the team comprises Captain Ilkay Gündogan from FC Barcelona, Toni Kroos from Real Madrid, Thomas Müller from Bayern Munich and one of the best goalkeepers in the history of football, Manuel Neuer from Bayern Munich. The top favourites to win the World Cup are England and France, though the German team is also thought to have chances of taking the title despite disappointing performances at major tournaments recently.
