Springboks winger Kurt-Lee Arendse has been suspended for four weeks after seeing red in his side’s 26-10 win over the All Blacks on Sunday (NZT).
The Sanzaar review committee accepted Arendse’s guilty plea, imposing the sanction that will see him suspended from all rugby up till and including September 17.
Arendse was sent off after taking out Beauden Barrett in the air in the 74th minute at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.
Barrett left the field after being flipped on to his neck as a hard-charging Arendse collected him low while in the air, but was later cleared of any major damage.
The review committee, chaired by New Zealander Michael Heron QC, regarded the act of foul play as “reckless, highly dangerous and had a considerable impact on the victim player”, but accepted it was not deliberate.
The committee felt it warranted a mid-range entry point of eight weeks but reduced it to four weeks given Arendse’s clean judicial record and acceptance of guilt.
