Warsaw (dpa) – Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz says Germany is planning to provide aid for surviving victims of Germany’s occupation’s of Poland during the Second World War. “Germany recognises the severity of its guilt, its responsibility for the millions of victims of the German occupation, and the mission that results from this today,” said the Federal Chancellor in Warsaw at a joint press conference with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Germany stood unconditionally by its historical responsibility, said Scholz. “This is not a matter of years, but of months,” said Tusk. Another reconciliation project is the establishment of a German-Polish Centre in Berlin.
The two sides set out further steps for their planned cooperation in a 40-page action plan, in which the issue of defence is a key element. Poland and Germany have been among the most committed supporters of Ukraine since its invasion by Russia. The aim is to expand cooperation between the armed forces and initiate joint defence projects.
