On Wednesday, November 3, the Nigeria Police Force denied reports that the two professors, their children and another staff of the University of Abuja who were abducted by gunmen have been rescued.
The Police refuting claims by a staff of UNIABUJA who said the victims were found along Abaji-Lokoja Expressway through efforts of the Force urged media practitioners to desist from peddling fake news.

Ait Online reports that the spokesperson for the Federal Capital police command, Josephine Adeh, said the report is untrue.

Also reacting to the report, the public relations officer for UNIABUJA, Habib Yakoob, said he cannot ascertain the authenticity of the news of their rescue.
Recall the Legit.ng previously reported that a professor of economics at the University of Abuja, Joseph Obansa, was abducted on Tuesday, November 2, when some unknown gunmen invaded the institution’s senior staff quarters.
Yakoob had confirmed that Professor Obansa was abducted alongside his son, another professor, Bassey Ubong, his son and daughter.
Other victims of the abduction include the deputy registrar of the University of Abuja who was identified as Mallam Mohammed Sambo and Dr Tobins Hamilton.
According to the spokesperson of the school, the gunmen invaded UNIABUJA at about 1 am on Tuesday, November 2.
However, shortly after news of their abduction filtered into the media, there were reports that the victims had been rescued by some officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

The report said the rescue operation took place along the Abaji-Lokoja highway, a claim which has since been debunked by the Police.
In other news, students of the Federal College of Education, Yola in Adamawa state protested the poor service and provision of water in their campuses by the management of the institution.
The students’ protest later turned violent after some soldiers were said to have been deployed into the school premises by the institution’s management.
This led to the shutting down of the institution by school authorities who asked the students to leave the college until further notice.
