After Arsenal’s outstanding start to the season, Piers Morgan has made an amazing about-face on his Mikel Arteta attitude. One of Arteta’s most vocal detractors in recent years, the broadcaster and Gunners supporter appears to have completely altered his mind in the last few months.
The Spaniard’s latest effort to get Arsenal back into the Champions League has already gotten off to a fast start. The last three transfer windows saw Arteta gain significant support, and as his plan comes to fruition, he is beginning to reap the benefits.
However, after taking over as manager in December 2019 for Unai Emery, he has experienced severe pressure on numerous occasions. In 2020–21, Arsenal completely missed out on playing in Europe before losing to Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the previous campaign. And throughout his term, Morgan has been one of the many well-known supporters who have called for his ouster.
He criticized Arteta for letting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to depart for free in January and join Barcelona after the former Arsenal captain began scoring frequently there. Since joining Barcelona, he has become the most lethal goal machine in the world, Morgan bemoaned. And with each goal he scored, Arteta seems even more ridiculous for having given him away, says the author.
Morgan repeatedly sought Arteta’s dismissal after Arsenal’s May loss to Newcastle ended their chances of finishing in the top four. As he tweeted: “Arteta has to be let go. Instead, he received a new contract and a significant wage increase. due to utter failure. Absolutely ludicrous”
However, Morgan’s opinion on Arteta has completely changed in light of the Gunners’ impressive preseason, thrilling summer signing activity, and perfect league start. In the late afternoon on Saturday, Morgan tweeted, “BREAKING: I’m trusting the process,” along with a picture of Arteta.
Arsenal began their 2022–23 season with a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace on the first night of the season at Selhurst Park, a venue where they have historically struggled. They joined Manchester City as the only team with a perfect record after two games when they won 4-2 on Saturday against Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium.
recent £45 million hire Gabriel Jesus had a terrific performance in his first competitive home game, scoring twice and dishing out the same number of assists. Along with Arteta’s other new hires, there is growing optimism on the red side of north London that the elite of Europe will soon return.
