Olympian Dawn Fraser’s daughter will give an update on the swimming legend’s health after her emergency surgery last week.
Earlier this week, Dawn-Lorraine Fraser said her mother was “one tough lady” who had “scared the daylights out of us” after breaking her hip and four ribs in a fall.
Live updates, reactions and contributions from ABC readers.
The family says Fraser tripped up on their driveway which is currently being renovated, after eye surgery a few weeks ago.
Doctors say the bone she broke in her hip was “particularly dangerous to operate on” and decided to replace her whole hip.
The 87-year-old is considered one of the greatest swimmers of all time after winning Olympic gold in the 100m freestyle across three games — 1956, 1960, and 1964.
She was also the first woman to break the minute barrier for the 100m freestyle.
Fraser has continued to attend sporting events and dinners supporting Australian athletes.
She was spotted at the Australian Golf Open in Melbourne on November 30, and was also in the stands at this year’s Paris Olympics cheering on the Australian swimmers.
Fraser is an eight-time Olympic medallist, including four gold and four silver.
She was the first swimmer of either gender to win the same event across three Olympics and remains one of only four swimmers to have achieved that feat.
