August 17 (Renewables Now) – Egypt and Slovenia are considering strengthening their partnership in the area of renewable energy, green hydrogen and electricity, the Cabinet of the Arab country said on Monday.
Egypt’s Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker and the Ambassador of Slovenia to Cairo Mateja Prevolsek met on Monday to discuss ways to support and expand the cooperation between the two countries and open new investment opportunities in these areas.
During the meeting, Shaker stressed that a number of measures have been taken in Egypt to support the involvement of the private sector in renewable energy projects, including solar and wind power. The most significant move was the legislative changes that have been made to clear the way for investments in green power projects, Shaker said.
The minister added that Egypt is working with an international consultant on an energy strategy that includes raising the share of renewables in the country to over 42% by 2035.
Additionally, the preparation of the North African country’s national hydrogen strategy is progressing and the advisory work on it has already been completed, according to Shaker.
On her part, Mateja Prevolsek expressed Slovenia’s interest in enhancing the bilateral cooperation between the two countries. The ambassador noted that Egypt is an attractive investment destination thanks to the efforts that have improved the investment climate in the country.
