A court in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, has detained a 24-old lady for indecent dressing in public.
Last Thursday, a judge at the Kicukiro Primary court declined to grant RwaMugabekazi Lilliane bail, with the prosecution requesting that she be detained for 30 days as the investigation continues.
RwaMugabekazi Lilliane, a Rwanda, was arrested on August 7, 2022 for dressing inappropriately. She was charged with public indecency.
She had wore a sheer dress described as “shameful” to attend a concert by popular French singer Tayc. She was arrested eight days after the concert.
A photo of her in a fish net dress at the concert appeared on social media, leading to her arrest.
The Law Determining Offenses and Penalties in Rwanda, Article 143, stipulates that “Any person who performs an indecent act in public, commits an offense. Upon conviction, he/she is liable to imprisonment for a term of not less than six months and not more than two years”.
