The Lego Ideas website allows people to submit ideas for future kits. If enough people vote on something, it can possibly be made into a real set sold by the company. This includes things like the Dungeons & Dragons set and the Starry Night interpretation.
So far, the iMac G3 has 5,712 supports, and it has 320 days left to reach the 10k threshold. Once it does that, it will be reviewed by the company. If they deem it possible, they’ll work with the original designer to make a version for mass production.
While this one will likely get the votes, I think the major hurdle here will be getting Apple’s approval. The company is pretty tight with its merch output. That said, this is so cool and there are lots of Lego apps on the App Store. I also remember a Lego AR demo on stage at a WWDC many years ago, so it’s fair to say the companies have some kind of relationship.
However, if this does get made, make sure you don’t lose any pieces because recent rulings by the Trump government have made it a lot harder to get replacement parts in Canada.
It’s also worth noting that there’s an original Macintosh build with 2,270 supporters.
