Has Australia really signed up to “undertake joint efforts to safeguard the Arctic”, as Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney told reporters at home while touring Canberra and Sydney?
Well, Carney made it sound a bit more action-filled than how Australians would put it. It certainly doesn’t seem like Australia will put boots on the snowy ground of the Arctic anytime soon.
What Carney was referring to was Australia’s commitment to sell Canada its unique version of what is known as an over-the-horizon radar (OTHR) system.
