Top Scholarships Closing In June 2026

As the cost of higher education continues to rise, scholarships remain one of the most effective ways for students to reduce out-of-pocket expenses and minimize student loan debt. Every year, thousands of students miss scholarship deadlines simply because they are unaware of available opportunities or wait too long to begin the application process.

June is an important month for scholarship seekers, with several notable opportunities available for students pursuing technical careers, attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), returning to college after a break, or overcoming challenges such as time spent in foster care.

At IOScholarships, we encourage students to apply for every scholarship for which they are eligible. Even smaller awards can add up and make a meaningful difference when it comes to paying for tuition, books, housing, and other educational expenses.

Below are several scholarships with June 2026 deadlines, along with tips that can help students strengthen their applications and improve their chances of success.

Award Amount: Up to $2,500

Deadline: June 4, 2026

Sponsored by the Albuquerque Community Foundation, the Andrew Piech Memorial Scholarship provides awards of up to $2,200 to current college students in New Mexico who are pursuing studies in Automotive Technology or a related Applied Technologies field.

Technical and vocational careers continue to offer strong employment opportunities across the United States. As vehicles become increasingly sophisticated, employers are seeking technicians with specialized training in diagnostics, electronics, and advanced automotive systems.

Students pursuing careers in these fields often face expenses beyond tuition, including tools, equipment, certification exams, and training materials. Scholarships like this one can help offset those costs and allow students to focus on completing their education.

Application Tip

Applicants should emphasize their career goals and explain why they chose automotive technology or applied technologies. Scholarship committees often appreciate candidates who can clearly describe how their education will contribute to their local communities or future industries.

Award Amount: Varies

Deadline: June 4, 2026

The David R. Woodling Memorial Scholarship supports New Mexico graduating high school seniors who plan to pursue an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Metals Technology.

Skilled trades remain a vital part of the workforce, and many industries continue to face shortages of qualified workers. Students interested in manufacturing, welding, fabrication, and industrial technology can benefit from scholarship opportunities specifically designed for these career paths.

This scholarship recognizes students who are committed to developing practical skills and entering industries that play a critical role in infrastructure, construction, and manufacturing.

Application Tip

Students should highlight hands-on experiences, technical coursework, internships, vocational training, or extracurricular activities related to manufacturing and technology. Demonstrating a genuine passion for the field can help an application stand out.

Award Amount: $10,000

Deadline: June 8, 2026

The HBCU Scholars Empowerment Program, sponsored by Daughters of Charity Inc., provides awards of up to $5,000 to Black and African American students attending accredited Historically Black Colleges and Universities or Predominantly Black Institutions.

HBCUs have long served as centers of academic excellence, leadership development, and cultural empowerment. This scholarship aims to support students as they begin their college journey and work toward achieving their educational goals.

The award is available to students admitted to or enrolled as full-time freshmen during the upcoming academic year.

Application Tip

Applicants should focus on their academic goals, leadership experiences, community involvement, and future aspirations. Demonstrating a commitment to making a positive impact can strengthen an application significantly.

Award Amount: Up to $1,500

Deadline: June 8, 2026

Students with creative talents may find the Ocean Awareness Student Contest particularly appealing. Sponsored by Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Programs, the contest invites students between the ages of 11 and 18 to explore environmental themes through artistic expression.

This year’s theme, “Your Story, Our Ocean: How Our Ocean Sustains, Protects, and Inspires Us,” encourages participants to examine the relationship between people and the ocean through art, poetry, prose, film, or music.

Open to middle and high school students worldwide, the contest provides an opportunity for young people to combine creativity with environmental awareness.

Application Tip

The strongest submissions often tell a personal story while connecting it to a broader environmental issue. Students should focus on originality, authenticity, and creativity.

Award Amount: $2,000–$3,000

Deadline: June 30, 2026

The Mālama Kai Foundation’s George A. Wilkins Scholarship was established to support the next generation of ocean stewards, scientists, and conservation leaders in Hawaiʻi. Named in honor of George A. Wilkins, a pioneering Navy scientist and marine conservation advocate, the scholarship provides financial assistance to Hawaiʻi high school graduates pursuing degrees in marine conservation and ocean-related STEM fields. The program reflects the foundation’s ongoing commitment to protecting Hawaiʻi’s marine ecosystems through education and community engagement.

Students pursuing careers in marine biology, environmental science, ocean engineering, conservation technology, and related STEM disciplines are encouraged to apply. The scholarship recognizes applicants who demonstrate passion, purpose, and a commitment to protecting and restoring ocean ecosystems for future generations. Awards are expected to range from $2,000 to $3,000 per recipient for the 2026 application cycle.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Hawaiʻi high school graduate
  • Pursuing a degree in marine conservation or an ocean-related STEM field
  • Demonstrates interest in environmental stewardship and ocean conservation
  • Planning to attend an accredited college or university

Application Tip

Students should clearly explain their connection to the ocean, environmental conservation, or marine science. Strong applications often include examples of volunteer work, research projects, community service, environmental advocacy, or leadership experiences that demonstrate a commitment to protecting natural resources. Applicants should also describe how their education and career goals will contribute to the future of ocean conservation in Hawaiʻi and beyond.

Why This Scholarship Matters

As environmental challenges continue to impact oceans and coastal communities worldwide, there is a growing need for skilled professionals dedicated to marine conservation and sustainable resource management. The George A. Wilkins Scholarship invests in students who are preparing to tackle these challenges through science, innovation, and stewardship. By supporting future leaders in ocean-related fields, the Mālama Kai Foundation is helping preserve Hawaiʻi’s unique marine environment for generations to come.

General Scholarship Application Tips

Many students underestimate how much preparation goes into a successful scholarship application. While eligibility requirements are important, the quality of the application itself often determines who receives funding.

Start Early

One of the biggest mistakes students make is waiting until the last minute. Starting early allows time to gather documents, request recommendation letters, revise essays, and carefully review application requirements.

Customize Every Essay

Avoid submitting the same essay for every scholarship. Scholarship committees can usually tell when an essay has been copied and pasted without customization. Instead, tailor each application to reflect the scholarship’s mission and values.

Follow Instructions Carefully

Many applications are rejected because students fail to follow simple directions. Pay close attention to word counts, required documents, formatting guidelines, and submission deadlines.

Showcase Leadership and Community Service

Academic achievement is important, but many scholarship providers also value leadership, volunteer work, and community involvement. Be sure to include examples that demonstrate initiative and personal responsibility.

Proofread Everything

Spelling errors, grammar mistakes, and incomplete answers can negatively impact an otherwise strong application. Ask a teacher, counselor, mentor, or family member to review materials before submission.

Apply to Multiple Scholarships

Students should avoid relying on a single scholarship opportunity. The most successful applicants often submit applications to dozens of scholarships throughout the year. Every award, regardless of size, can contribute to reducing educational expenses.

Finding More Scholarship Opportunities

The scholarships listed above represent only a small portion of the financial aid opportunities available to students each year. New scholarships are announced regularly by foundations, nonprofit organizations, corporations, community groups, and educational institutions.

By consistently searching for opportunities and applying throughout the year, students can significantly increase their chances of receiving funding.

IOScholarships is committed to helping students discover scholarship opportunities, stay informed about upcoming deadlines, and access resources that make higher education more affordable. Whether you are a high school student planning for college, a current undergraduate, a technical education student, or an adult learner returning to school, there are scholarships available to support your academic journey.

The key is to start early, stay organized, and apply often. Every scholarship application is an opportunity to invest in your future and move one step closer to achieving your educational goals.
